The melodies of springy joy deserve to be transcribed into songs. Fortunately, they have been, they are and they always will be. For the very joyous reason that some tunes just sound like spring. Some of them even scream spring. However, I would argue that their vision of spring slightly differs.
That’s why today we are exploring different visions of spring, as described by some songs that linger in my seasonal playlist. Spring, spring, spring… spring as in…
1. … falling in love
Accidentally in Love (by Counting Crows) – I have used this song in the gift I made my boyfriend for our 6-month anniversary and crowned it the most romantic song. Because… c’mon, it just is! “I surrender to the strawberry ice cream”? Peak lyricism and romanticism.
Maybe this synapse has been strengthen by the fact that I used to be obsessed with Shrek as a child (as reiterated by my sister, I do not remember this particular phase). Rewatching the movies and developing the first impressions of love might have fused together to create the current thought process I have presented to you.
Strawberry Sunscreen (by Lostboycow) – strawberry flavored-songs feel like a kiss, they just do! The whole rhythm is so playful and filled with flirty virtue, it makes my heart melt. It is one of those songs that match a cloudless day, where the gentle breeze decides your hair should not cover your beautiful face.
It’s the kind of love that nurtures you and cherishes your every accomplishment.
This Kiss (by Faith Hill) – describing a kiss as “perpetual bliss” is something you could only utter during a picnic in the middle of May near a glistening body of water. Anything so specifically sticky-sweet has to correlate with the chirping of birds and the blossoming of trees.
When nature comes back to life, so does innate human poetry. It just needed a spark of joy, a shy sunshine, the ability to leave your house without a jacket on.
Fred Astaire (by San Cisco) – of course, all these songs are subjectively chosen. However, this one is on another level. You might ask yourself how does a song in which the singer suggests his lover should pursue Fred Astaire (the dancer, I assume) instead of him sound romantic and warm to you?
Let’s all just read between the lines for a second. The lines being my last days of going to my bachelor’s lab during April and trying to hold it together. I remember filming my outfit on the very last day and having this song playing in the background. I did need a jacket, alas a light one. I had an Aperol Spritz near a fountain, and during my break, I sunbathed. That sounds like love to me.
2. … everything is possible
Televised (by HUNNY) – if someone gets described as a ray of sun, I will assume they embody this song. And if you like to pretend that the meaning behind art is about you (which I do, and obviously I will blame my zodiac sign for this habit), this is a pretty flattering description!
Juliet (by LMNT) – maybe I have chosen two songs that contain a name suspiciously close to my own. All the more power to me! Everything can be possible if you believe it wholeheartedly. For that, you need total trust in yourself and your unique vision.
Also, this song makes me feel like the main character while shopping for groceries, which is always a nice touch.
Miss Independent (by Ne-Yo) – another kind of main character, only now in a more professional setting. Whenever I had a bothersome task ahead of me, I would blast this song in my headphones first thing after leaving my apartment. It gives one unmotivated soul just the right amount of energy in order to get everything done, and also treat themselves to a yummy matcha on their way back.
Animal (by Neon Trees) – I understand this one could also fit in the romantic category, but I see it as passion in a more mundane way. Romanticizing the ordinary. Everything can become a romantic adventure if it has the right beat to it.
I recall particularly loving listening to this while waiting for the subway on my way to uni, because it made the journey feel brand new. It just pushes everything slightly out of the common.
3. … transitioning into summer
Budapest (by George Ezra) – I remember hearing this one during a self-defense class. Both my friend and I started humming it for days, but neither of us could reconstruct the lyrics or guess the title.
I couldn’t find it for a good couple of weeks, the season transitioning into summer. And it does have a nostalgic ring to it, comparable to sitting in fresh grass and watching the sun set, while the evening chill starts to show the tip of its nose. Although sweet in essence, this song encapsulates a certain level of melancholy and forlorn.
Check Yes, Juliet (by We The Kings) – yaaay, we made it to the second title featuring my almost-name! All jokes aside, this song screams early summer to me.
Listening to it while driving to the beach in an almost-too-crowded car, where each passenger is holding random objects due to lack of space. It smells like the sea, overlapping plans, and chaotic snack combinations, because no one has the patience to stop for a proper meal.
Don’t Stop Moving (by S Club) – this one was discovered in the sea of funky beats by my dearest friend, and she certainly knew what she was doing! It is so catchy and dancey, it makes me think that this is what people in the 90s thought the future would sound like.
I can imagine it playing at a breezy party on the beach, where everything smells like coconut sunscreen and cocktail syrups. The sand is warm enough to make your toes feel toasty, but not hot enough to burn.
Island In The Sun (by Weezer) – a classic, need I say more? It really does feel like a holiday, one you have been dreaming about since the cold months. And it is finally happening, just not right now. Maybe in a couple of weeks.
All that’s left to do is getting yourself a cute swim suit, a beachy manicure, and a pair of Tuscan mom sandals. Every day bringing you closer to your dreamy vacation.
Bonus category: anything by The Wombats
All of their songs sound different, not repetitive in any way, but a golden thread links them together. They feel playful and innovative and bold. They play with metaphors and expressions like it’s nothing, as if the power of words has nothing against them.
It is so witty, I can’t help but giggle when listening to them. And the band name? Adorable. It already tells you everything you have to know about them. I will probably gush over them in other posts as well, mainly because they also belong to my summer playlist!
So folks, this is my carefully curated selection for spring. I would have many more exceptional tunes tied to wholesome memories to share (perhaps I can even find more that contain Juliet in their title hehe).
For now, I will end here, hoping you will find your own kind of music in the background of your reminiscences.

Kurtiboo
I have to say, you have exceptional taste in music! Every single one of these songs would perfectly fit into a 2000s show that somehow always ends with a hangout at a live music venue *ahem* *ahem* The Bait Shop or Tric. :)) BRB, adding a few of these to my playlist.
P.S. There are never enough songs containing Juliet! <3
XOXO, Kurtiboo :*
The Cozy Sisters
My music taste has been highly influenced by my friends and their recommendations, so I believe it a team effort 💫
Have fun with that 2000s playlist!!
